Born in November 1937 in Rakowiec near Lviv (present-day Ukraine). She survived the war and the occupation in a small village where the Polish–Ukrainian conflict was strongly manifested. For most of the German occupation, her father was in hiding from patrols of Banderite units. Her mother survived a mass execution. After the end of the war, the family was forced to leave their family home and was deported to the Western Territories. They settled near Wrocław. After completing school, she took up professional work in Wrocław, where she lives to this day.
