Zdena Freundová

Zdena Freundová was born in July 1931 in Prague as a Jewish child and she survived the war only because she was hiding. Her father fled the Protectorate shortly after the German attack on Poland and in 1940-1945 he served as an engineer in the Royal Air Force. The family was reunited in August 1945 and after the war they moved several times due to her father‘s job. At the turn of the 1940s and 1950s Zdena did not pass the secondary school leaving exam for political reasons and she was not admitted to the university. For about a year she was employed as a draftswoman in the Stavoprojekt company, but thanks to the help of her boss she eventually managed to get a recommendation for university study. After graduation she worked in Liberec and then in Prague where she was employed in the State Trade Project Institute.
