Project: Armenian Memories

List of witnesses of this project

Armenian nation went through the Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915 and was a part of USSR (a totalitarian system) The current project is of great interest to the Armenian community. There are many reasons for it and one of them is that the history plays an important role in the lives of the Armenian citizens: the Armenian nation went through the Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915 (practically each Armenian family has a story of its own connected with the massacres of 1915), besides we were a part of USSR, a totalitarian system that cruelly destroyed any manifestation of opposition to its ideological attitudes (It is well known that many Armenians became the victims of Stalin’s repressions). The most interesting thing is that even those Armenian-repatriates were persecuted who returned to their historical homeland, Armenia, by the call of the USSR, in 1946-49 (they were actually people who miraculously escaped the Genocide of 1915, but who, believing in the propaganda of USSR, became the victims of the Stalin’s terror). That is why the preparation of the interview with the victims (or with their descendants) of the Armenian Genocide of 1915, Stalin’s repressions and other events that are important to the Armenian citizens as well as their illustration via the project of the Memory of Nations has a tremendous importance for recovering the justice and for the better awareness of people in many countries of the world about the events that took part in the large region of the Middle East and the territory that was once occupied by the USSR.
