A legacy of three generations

The story of Karel Matouš, born on 13 June 1950 in České Budějovice, is a continuation of a family story of courage, ingenuity and the desire for freedom. He continues the legacy of his grandfather, Karel Matouš I, a prominent entrepreneur, designer and inventor of the first Czechoslovak portable typewriter, Original Matouš, whose entire business was nationalised after February 1948. Karel Matouš grew up at a time when family origins were a stigma, yet he retained his independent spirit. After the occupation in 1968, he and his family decided to make a risky escape through Yugoslavia, which, thanks to some daring document forgery, was actually successful. He found a new home in Germany, graduated from university, played ice hockey for the ERC Ingolstadt club and worked in development for the Audi car company. After returning to his native České Budějovice, he resumed the family tradition and built a successful business. The story of three generations of Matouš family is a testimony to the desire for freedom and human perseverance.
