In order for my brother to graduate, my parents had to join a cooperative farm

Anna Kubiesová was born as Wiesnerová on 14 October 1939 in Všechovice in today‘s Olomouc region. She remembers moments from the Second World War, when liberation soldiers from the liberation of the Soviet Union stayed overnight in her house and harassed her mother Cecília Wiesnerová. A tragedy happened in the family during the liberation when a flying shell killed a little boy. Anna attended municpality school, but was not allowed to study further, as there was no money in the family. Her first job was working in a soda water factory, where she had to do physically strenuous work, which took a toll on her health. During the currency reform in 1953, the family lost money on bank deposits. The Wiesners owned a small farm spread over about five different locations - yet, under the threat that Anna‘s brother would not be allowed to graduate, they joined a cooperative farm in the 1950s. At the time of the interview, Anna Kubiesová was living in the Home for the Elderly in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm.
